Bone densitometry, also known as dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), is a method that is used to measure bone mineral density (BMD). Two X-ray beams with different energy levels are aimed at the patient’s bones and the BMD is determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. This method is commonly used to diagnose and monitor osteoporosis, an age-related condition characterized by bone weakness.
