Dr. Athanasios Petrou MD, MSc (HPB), PhD

Consultant General Surgeon

Dr. Petrou is head of the Hepatobiliary and Surgical Oncology Centers at AIMIS (American Institute of Minimal Invasive Surgery) Clinics and the American Medical Center (AMC) and collaborator surgeon at Nicosia General Hospital. He completed his surgical training at LAIKO Hospital in Athens and at several UK hospitals including Hammersmith Hospital, London, The Royal Marsden Hospital, Imperial College, London, NHS Trust – Department of Academic Surgery, and Churchill Hospital, Oxford, specializing in Hepatobiliary Surgery and Surgical Oncology. He has a Master’s Degree in Hepatobiliary Surgery from Democritus University of Thrace and a PhD title from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Dr. Petrou is head surgeon of the Nanoknife (Irreversible Electroporation – IRE) Program in Cyprus. He is also the head of the recently established Advanced Laparoscopic Hepatobiliary Surgery Program at AIMIS and the American Medical Center (AMC).

Dr. Petrou is a member of the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons (AUGIS) of Great Britain and Ireland, the European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (E-AHPBA), the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (I-HPBA), and the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO). He has more than 80 published articles, clinical and experimental papers in international scientific journals, and many presentations at international surgical meetings and conferences.
